Clove and Tangarine Animal

This little animal was made out of whole cloves, a tangarine, brown paper ears, some sock yarn for the tail, pipe cleaners for the feet and two safety eyes without their backing. At first I was trying for a hedgehog, but in the end it turned out more like a 'cat with an afro.' As we found out he leaks a little orange juice, but smells very Christmas-y. Mom gave me the helpful hint of using an awl-like tool or needle to create the hole for the cloves to be stuck into; much easier than to simply pushing them in.
*To attach his ears I cut a small slit in the tangarine, inserted the ears and then put in a few whole cloves in the slit to keep them in place. The tail was attatched similarly, while the pipe cleaners were folded in half and bent in the middle again for feet and just stuck into the bottom. Permanent marker was used for the facial features.
