Mom's Christmas Present..

No peaking Mom

front
back

inside- includes a red daisy pocket about the right size for sunglasses.

This was my first try in working with burlap, also my first purse, making sure the lining came out right gave me a minor fit... I had to resew it once because it was stitched wrong ugh. Though I'm proud to say it's all my pattern; though the mushroom house was inspired by an image I found on the web and drew into my sketchbook.

Mom has made a simple terrarium, I don't know if she blogged about it but I wanted to give her some things to either put in her terrarium or use as charms.

Glass beads that I was hoping would mimic lanterns. Em lent her fingers for this shot thanks :)

Another mushroom, and three much smaller white ones which need to have their wires shortened. I saw a pic while on a google search of a cute terrarium with a mushroom clothesline which was sort of what I wanted to create here.

Alan Dart Christmas Gnome

My version of the uber cute Christmas Gnome, I discovered that the larger the needles the easier it is to knit fun fur- having a second yarn intertwined helps too. I crocheted the nose instead of knitting it, I find for me it comes together better.

Alpaca Softie

My first set of gussets :) This was a free pattern from The Shishi Girl which can be found at this posting though the saddle is mine :)

Turkey

An old free pattern that I found a few years back which was mentioned on The Best of DYI but the tutorial was created by Bittersweet . It crochets up fairly fast though the tail gets rather old with all the increasing. The only part I find tricky is sewing the tail on, though Mom never has any trouble...hmm

Cute Owl Softie

I made this after seeing these owls in the Crate & Barrel catalog, mine turned out a little bigger and I changed the eyes because all my buttons have four holes; and because I thought the safety eyes would look cute. Crate & Barrel have a lot of really cute ornaments this year and as far as I can tell they are all available for purchase online. Or just to drool over :)

Handwarmers

My version of the microwavable gloves that I saw in The Best of DIY and she found the link to the tutorial at CraftStylish
*Note* While the tutorial calls or a funnel for the rice I found a straw or the tubing of a cheap mechanical pencil work just as well.

And I liked the idea of the gloves so much I made a warmer about the size of one of my hands for general use. I really like how blanket stitch finished the edges but the hydrangea flowers were a pain to sew on.

Alpaca/ Lama Pincushion

*Picture coming soon*- As soon as I find my camera again.....

My first fair isle? style knitting; anyway the first where I've had to carry two colors along. But I'm pleased it worked as well as it did considering it was, squee, my pattern. I had a full sheet of graph paper filled with variations of lamas, a slightly longer tail, legs, ears, etc. and then I had my family vote on which one they liked the best...Mom & I liked this pattern, though Dad liked one with a longer leg; which I thought looked strange. :)

I'll soon have a pic up for these slippers that my Grandma J. knit me, very awesome, but I haven't sewed on the crocheted roses yet- read I haven't finished making a rose ( it takes over 53 stitches to begin with, very offsetting) but I have high hopes that I'll have finished them soon.

*Note* I'm sorry comments have to be moderated but I've had some bad experiences with spammers and have no desire to have to individually delete over 20 comments. (none of which had anything to do with my blog by the way)

Fall Photos

All images are mine so please don't use without permission... I don't mind if they're used in a post so long as it's linked back in some way.

Kokeshi

My unfinished kokeshi

For scale the medium sized kokeshi in yellow and green is a little smaller than the size of my thumb.
*Note* I have gone through all my draft posts and posted them around the time they were written so if you have the time you may want to check out some of the older pages as there are some new posts hidden back there.

Fox Softie Prototype

Inspired by some of the photos on Softies Central, but my own pattern. I was really happy how the tail turned out; I cut a slit in the back and poked the tail through and then sewed the slit closed. I think if I ever get around to making the bigger version I'll make sure the white on the tail extends to the seam allowance so that there won't be any red visible at the tip of the tail.

Some Recent Projects

Rabbit I made last summer out of bamboo after seeing Moon's Creations on Plushteam, unfortunately it doesn't stand on its own.

Horrid photo of a $1.00 cabinet I got at Michaels which I painted, added scrapbook paper for the background and then modge-podged to add shine. The pumpkin and the kokeshi are my own design. I had so much fun finding little things to put on the shelves. I really like the way the unpainted kokeshi is turning out.. it's a WIP right now it's more western inspired than most of the others that I've painted. For an idea of scale the unpainted kokeshi is about the size of my thumb.
